Vascular Surgery
A vascular surgeon specialises in diagnosing and treating problems to do with blood vessels like arteries and veins. Due to the extremely high level of expertise required for this role, many vascular surgeons who consult for the NHS also operate via private practices.
Our vascular surgery service focuses on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of arterial, venous, and lymphatic disease. This includes:
- Carotid artery disease - caused by the narrowing or blockage of carotid arteries that carry blood to the neck and head, and can lead to a stroke
- Aneurysmal disease - which results from a bulge in a blood vessel caused by a weakness in the blood vessel wall
- Peripheral arterial disease - caused by the restriction of the flow of blood to the lower limbs due to a build-up of fat in the arteries
- Venous disease - when veins become diseased or abnormal
- Raynaud’s disease - a condition affecting the blood supply to certain parts of the body, usually the fingers and toes
- Hyperhidrosis - excessive sweating
- Lymphoedema - caused by damage or disruption to the lymphatic system that drains excess fluid and removes bacteria from the body’s tissue
Our consultant surgeons are some of the highest-ranked in the world – and this is rare. Critical surgery requires not only a high degree of knowledge but extremely well-trained fine motor skills to actually perform the surgeries. In short, you can feel confident that you’re in good hands.
